Love is in the Air! Valentine's Q&A with Jamie Ross from Finding Lucas

8  fabulous authors and I have lowered the prices of our ebooks to .99 from February 14-17. How's that for a nice (and cheap) Valentine's Day surprise? To celebrate, one of our characters from the books on sale is answering some fun, steamy and romantic questions. Be sure to check the authors' blogs listed at the end of this post to read their interviews!

In Finding Lucas, Jamie Ross is struggling to get out of a toxic relationship with Derek, her maniacal metrosexual boyfriend of 5 long years. When her new boss at the sleazy daytime TV show where she works plans a segment on reuniting lost loves, Jamie remembers Lucas--her "friends with benefits" from high school and early college that she hasn't seen or spoken to in over ten years. With a nudge from her quirky gang of friends, Jamie goes on a frenzied hunt to track Lucas down.

1. Are you currently in a relationship? If so, tell us a little bit about your S.O. And if not...what are you looking for in a romantic partner?

Let me just take a drink first. This is a bit hard to talk about it (sucks down half of a vodka/cranberry cocktail). Whew, okay. Well, relationship might be pushing it. I mean, Derek wasn't always such an uptight prick, but lately, okay, for the last couple of years, he's turned into someone I don't even recognize. When we met, he was cool, down to earth and so hot. He had a motorcycle, long hair and could have cared less what brand of jeans he was wearing. But ever since he got his big, all important corporate job, he's changed. I don't know what to do. We've been together for so long. And I love him. But am I in love with him? I don't know (sighs hugely). My ideal romantic parter would be the Derek I met. Funny, smart, rebellious, edgy, sexy. Maybe I can get that back? Or maybe if I can find Lucas, I'll know whether I should stay or go.

2. How old were you when you had your first kiss--and can you share what you remember about it?

Well, I remember my first kiss with Lucas. I was sixteen, and we were at a crazy party at this guy, Jason's house (giggles and takes another sip). Jason would have these huge parties in his backyard, and his parents never cared if we were drinking all of their alcohol or jumping off of the roof. Looking back now, I guess you'd say they weren't the best parents (grins and pulls her hair back into a ponytail). Anyway, Lucas had just moved to Chicago from Oregon, and the first time I saw him sitting on the grass outside the school, I couldn't take my eyes off of him. He was sullen, uncommunicative, and moody. A guy who didn't pay attention to me? I wanted him. So, one night at Jason's, he just leaned over and kissed me. Wow, it was amazing. I don't think we even exchanged two words, but when his lips touched mine, I was on fire. He held my face in his hands and used just the right amount of tongue. I'd never been kissed like that. Actually, it's been a long time since I've been kissed like that.

3. Describe your ideal romantic evening.

I would love to just hang out in our sweats, order in some Italian and watch a movie. No fuss, no muss, no tense silences. Oh, and an orgasm would be great!

4. What's your favorite romantic comedy, book or movie, and why? What about love song--and why?

I love TV. In fact, I work as the associate producer of a daytime talk show, and TV and movies are my perfect escape. I'm not so good at talking about the things that bother me so I like to get lost in TV to forget what's going on (looks down at the floor quickly and drinks the last of her cocktail). My favorite romantic comedy would have to be "Bridget Jones's Diary." I love that she says it like it is, isn't perfect, has a bit of extra weight like I do, I mean, look at the size of my ass, and wants to be with someone who makes her happy. But it's not easy for her to get there. And favorite love song? That's easy. "Crazy for You" by Madonna. It's an old song, but it played at my prom, and even though Lucas and I were just "friends with benefits" all through high school, we didn't want anyone to know we were together at all. I hate gossip, and I didn't want to be the cause of it. So, we weren't "together" at prom, but we had that one dance. I love that song.

5. What food most gets you "in the mood"?

Anything that my family thinks isn't healthy (laughs and rolls her eyes). My mom is a colonic herbalist and crystal healer and she and my step-mom don't eat meat, sugar or caffeine. So, if I have a steak, a vodka cranberry cocktail and chocolate, I'm good to go. But, to be honest, my sex life is at such a standstill, I'd be happy with a stick of gum to get me going.

6. Can you tell us about your worst date ever?

So, Derek and I spent our 5 year anniversary in Montreal. Sounds romantic, right? Well, Derek loves nothing more than shopping, and it always has to be the best. The hottest pants, the trendiest bag. Ugh. So, instead of hanging out at Mont Royal with the bongo players and relaxing in the sun, we went to buy stuff. I'm happy with my ratty jeans and second-hand tops. I got a totally unnecessary makeover, since I don't know how to use it anyway, and I've looked orange ever since. But, Derek used to take me on the coolest, most low-key dates. Camping trips, rides on his motorcycle...things used to be so great.

7. How far will you go on a first date? And how many dates do you need to go on before you knock boots?

Ha! Now, this is a great question because Derek was my first and only one night stand. I'd been able to get as far as the "everything but" stage before I met him, but the idea of having sex with someone I didn't know scared me. But, I was at a bar with my best friend, Hanna, the most gorgeous woman you'll ever see, when Derek walked in. I assumed he was looking at us because he wanted Hanna, every guy does, but he actually wanted me. I could not give up on an opportunity to have sex with a guy so hot. We've now been together for 5 years. But, if we broke up, and I met someone? I've never been one to follow a rule book or anything, but I think it would take a couple of times of seeing him before we were, um, knocking boots.

And there you have it. Jamie's obviously got a lot to work out, and if you want to find out how she does that, Finding Lucas is on sale for a few more days.

  1. Aw, poor Jamie! Derek is such a tool! UGH I did LOL over the stick of gum comment. Hee!

So nice to revisit Jamie and find out more about her. You know how much I loved FINDING LUCAS. Anyone who hasn't read it, needs to buy the book NOW! :)

    1. Thank you, Tracie! Yes, Jamie has no filter. :)

  2. This post made me want to read Finding Lucas all over again! "Oh and an orgasm would be great." haha. Yes it would!

  3. Love this! Jamie needs to kick that Derek to the curb stat. Everyone knows that if you visit Montreal, you have to spend at least one afteroon on Mont Royal with the bongo players. It's the law! ;)

    1. Oh, you make me miss Montreal so much, Cat. Maybe I'll see you some time at the Tam Tams. :)

  4. Great interview! Love #3! Heehee. Good luck with that, Jamie!

  5. Ha! I'm with Tracie. That stick of gum comment made me giggle. Great interview! Reminds me why I love Finding Lucas so much - Jamie's such a fun and relatable character. :-)

  6. Very cute! I loved Jamie and I loved Finding Lucas. I seriously still think about that night she goes to the club and ends up with... Well, I won't blow it. Very fun interview. Def made me want to have a vodka cranberry (or 4).

    1. Oh, that night in the club. Jamie should know not to drink that much when she's with Hanna and Lucy. Thanks, Francine!

  7. I can't wait to read Finding Lucas! Great Q&A! :)

  8. These answers capture Jamie perfectly! While I was reading FINDING LUCAS, I felt like Jamie and I were SO dissimilar because I am a fashion and beauty whore and Derek sounded like my dream guy! LOL! But your writing was so funny and Jamie was a crack up and I ended up routing for her all the way to the end.

    1. That means so much to me, Lucie. Funnily enough, Jamie and I are pretty dissimilar, too. Though I don't know if I've ever heard anyone describe Derek as their dream guy. Ha, ha! He'd be happy to hear that. :)

  9. OMG, Jamie sounds like my kinda gal. Gotta move this book up on my TBR queue. This was a fun post. Love learning more about books through these interviews! Thanks for the entertainment.

    1. Thank you, Sharon! I think Jamie is pretty cool. :)
